OJOKORO | VILLAGE—which begins as a seed, a shell, a container, a vessel. home, sacred space—is a living altar of afropolitan tactile objects and nomadic experiences for collective and futuristic becoming 

This evolving collection of afropolitan objects and experiences for conscientious and collective becoming takes its inspiration from my maternal grandparents' home in OJOKORO VILLAGE, Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria. The homestead, which sat on 2 plots of land, one where a home was erected, and the other was a sanctuary-garden-farm of sorts, where fellowship, communion, and collective care were nurtured. Our home became a gathering space for family members, loved ones, and community members in the simple ritual of sharing experience and existence with the land, spirit, the ancestors, and one another. It was here that I became inspired to create OJOKORO | VILLAGE

The ethos of OJOKORO | VILLAGE is that wherever objects and bodies exist, experiences capable of transforming and changing us are also capable of flowing from there. It is that sensitivity to the ritual of gathering that drives the ethos of transformation of this living altar beyond geographic, temporal or spatial delimitations. 

As children of the diaspora, OJOKORO | VILLAGE is everywhere we are, everywhere the land is, anyplace we call home, where the heart is. It emerges out of the space of connectivity that reverberates the silent hum of Africanity that moves through the very DNA of modern African diaspora.

From Lagos, to Baltimore, to Brazil, and beyond.

OJOKORO | VILLAGE sets forth its intention through this conscientious collectivity of tactile objects and nomadic experiences that hold the potential to shape and transform our collective experience.

OJOKORO | VILLAGE invites those who should choose to engage in this energetic exchange to continue fashioning alternate ways of being, seeing, and experiencing the world in ways that honor both our roots and the nodes of connection that bind us across time and space.
